In the News: New Mississippi Aquarium

new Mississippi aquarium

Exploring Mississippi reveals different treasures each and every year. Soon, our state will have another amazing landmark on the map: the new Mississippi Aquarium. We have to say it—the Aquarium is going to be a big splash!

A New Opening

Though many have patiently waited to step inside the new Mississippi Aquarium, it remains closed. Originally, it was slated to welcome the public this past April. However, in order to protect everyone from COVID-19, those running the Aquarium opted to postpone its first day.

Still, there’s a silver lining! The extra time and resources mean that the Aquarium can create more fun surprises for visitors.

Exhibits and Features

The new Mississippi Aquarium promises a deeply exciting experience! It includes incredible exhibits and features like:

  • An otter exhibit;
  • Shark tanks;
  • A three-story-high tank;
  • Dolphin tanks;
  • A penguin exhibit;
  • Alligator tanks;
  • A tunnel where visitors can walk through and see fish, stingrays, and even sharks; and
  • So much more.

Visiting Details

It may be a bit longer until we can all “wave” hello to the critters swimming around the new Mississippi Aquarium. The Aquarium’s proposed opening will happen sometime in September. For when that happens, here’s what you need to know!

The Aquarium is located at 2100 E. Beach Boulevard in Gulfport, Mississippi. When it opens, the tickets will be free for those aged 2 and younger, $24.45 for those aged 3 to 12, and $29.95 for adults. You can also opt for a membership if you want to visit again and again!
