New Business Spotlight: The Cannery Bar & Grill

The Cannery Bar & Grill

It feels like anytime in 2020 that we can truly use the phrase “new business spotlight,” it’s indeed something to celebrate. So, without further ado—cheers to The Cannery Bar & Grill, one of Biloxi’s newest businesses!

Finding Inspiration

The Cannery Bar & Grill was definitely a labor of love that took more than a year of planning before owner Matthew Mavar decided to forge ahead and open the doors during a global pandemic last month.

According to an article published at the time, Mavar’s new venture is a “homage” to his family who once had “the old cannery cat food plant on Back Bay and used to do Kozy Kitten cat food as well.” Mavar also felt inspired as he worked to create the right kind of atmosphere.

It’s part homey and part “whiskey shootin’, high-falootin’, dance-floor-foolin’ honky tonk,” with the crowing jewel out back. For Mavar, The Shine Shack is reminiscent of a place he once visited in Colorado. The result is an outdoor stage with plenty of character where live music plays most Friday and Saturday nights.

What’s on the Menu

The menu is suited for a bar and grill with a little something for everyone. There are appetizers like Crack-a-Lackin Chicken Crack (that’s deep-fried chicken skin with small thigh pieces) and Garlic Cheese Curds. Main “offer’ins” are the usual bar and grill fare with wings, chicken fingers, and burgers. But the burgers do bring something different to the table with a Pork Belly Burger and a Crabby Cake Burger.

Upcoming Entertainment

If you are in the mood to be a dancin’ fool this weekend, you’re in luck! Tonight’s entertainment is none other than Jamie Hyatt. Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 17, features Southbound Express. Next weekend’s line-up, Oct. 23-24, is the Jason Stronger Band. And put a jack-o-lantern by this one—it’s a Stellar Halloween Party Friday, Oct. 30. Costumes are a must!

Every Wednesday, there’s the Pop Culture Trivia Challenge for a mid-week morale booster.

Location and Hours

The Cannery Bar & Grill is located at 13066 Shriners Blvd.—the Woolmarket’s only bar and grill! Closing times may vary, but for the most part, doors open Friday through Sunday at noon and close at 1 a.m. Closed Mondays and back at it Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Be sure to like them on Facebook (@thecannerybng) for the latest hours and happenings.
