In the News: Buc-ee’s in Southern Mississippi

Buc-ee’s in Southern Mississippi

Mississippi’s first-ever Buc-ee’s location is one step closer to being here! The Texas-based travel center announced its building plans back in 2021 and is reportedly investing $50 million in this new development. This Buc-ee’s in Southern Mississippi is not only bringing jobs to the area, but also making big improvements to the surrounding exits, ramps, and roads.

What is Buc-ee’s

Buc-ee’s is a Texas-based travel center that offers fuel, food, home decor, and so much more! Inside this Southern cultural phenomenon, you can find aisles stocked full of beaver-themed merchandise, apparel, souvenirs, snack foods, and even a deli. This popular store sells a variety of beef jerky, freshly made fudge, and its famous beaver nuggets.

In the past few years, Buc-ee’s has been expanding throughout the Southeast. There are now 43 different locations, ranging from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and, of course, Texas.

But this large convenience store isn’t just a phenomenon; it also holds two world records. Currently, it holds the records for the largest convenience store and for the longest car wash.

What’s to come

The new Buc-ee’s in Southern Mississippi has gotten the approval of Harrison County Supervisors. These supervisors are now issuing a general obligation bond in order to improve the intersections and exits around the new development on Menge Avenue.

Bill Lavers, executive director of the Harrison County Development Commission, told the Sun Herald that a $15 million makeover will expand Menge Avenue from two lanes to five lanes and lengthen the ramps entering and exiting the interstate to handle the traffic increase.

Set to invest $50 million, this new Buc-ee’s has plans to be the world’s largest convenience store, beating out the current world record holder in New Braunfels, Texas. The business will be 80,000 square feet and employ 200 people. Lavers stated that this would help the whole neighborhood by creating more business and jobs for the area.

However, it will be at least another two years before this project is fully completed.

This major development at the Menge Avenue exit off of Interstate 10 is one of Mississippi’s most awaited projects. You will be able to see the 43-acre soon-to-be Buc-ee’s location on the northwest corner of Menge and I-10 in the city of Pass Christian. That’s about 30 minutes from Biloxi!
