About Rouses Market in Biloxi
Rouses Market is coming to Biloxi and reviving a space once occupied by another grocery store chain, Winn-Dixie.
Soon, the 60,000-square-foot building will be under renovation with a complete remodel from the inside out. But the look and the name aren’t the only things that will change.
According to the report, the products and services will also be different. The Rouses Market in Biloxi plans to offer shoppers access to fresh, local seafood, local produce, entire lines of Gulf Coast-made specialty items and more.
What’s more, Rouses’ own smokehouse, seafood boiling room, sausage kitchen, bakery and florists add to the unique feel and services of the Southern brand.
Renovations are expected to begin sometime in April. And the projected store opening is in the spring of 2024. This will be the company’s fifth location in Mississippi.
More about Rouses Markets
Technically, the precursor to Rouses Markets started in 1923 in Thibodaux, LA. It was known as the City Produce Company and was opened by J.P. Rouse. The company sorted, packed and shipped fresh local produce across the U.S.
Eventually, J.P.’s son, Anthony, and his nephew, Ciro DiMarco, took over the family business. In 1960, the first Rouses opened in Houma, LA.
CEO Donny Rouse is now the third generation to operate the family-owned company. It has grown from one store to more than 60, with locations across Louisiana, the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Lower Alabama. You can get more of Rouses story here.
