More about Gulfport

Officially incorporated in 1898, Gulfport is now the second-largest city in Mississippi. The city experienced noteworthy growth with the construction of the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad. Another boom followed the dredging of Gulfport’s harbor, which connected the channel to the sea.

According to the website, the Port of Gulfport was a working seaport by 1902. Since then, Gulfport has survived natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding. But residents weather the storms and rise to the challenges of coastal living; as they say, Gulfport is a “testament to resilience.”
